ROSOL SAVES 2 Match Points
WIN WINSTON-SALEM CROWN
Lukas Rosol lifted his second ATP World Tour trophy after saving two match points to win 3-6, 7-6(3), 7-5 against Jerzy Janowicz at the Winston-Salem Open final on Saturday.
The 29 year old fought off two match points against his 6’8″ opponent as he served at 4-5 in the deciding set. Rosol went on to break Janowicz in the following game, and capped the triumph with his 13th ace.
“I just focused on my games, especially while I was serving,” said Rosol. “I waited patiently to see if he would give me a chance on his serve, and he did. I didn’t start out well, but I finished strong.”
NEW HAVEN TITLE
NEW HAVEN, CT, USA –
Petra Kvitova completed a dream week on Saturday,
defeating Magdalena Rybarikova to win her second WTA title of the year –
13th of her career – at the Connecticut Open.
The No.2-seeded Kvitova didn’t drop a set all week
and continued that momentum against the unseeded Rybarikova,
nearly letting go of a 5-2 lead in the first set –
losing two games in a row for it to be cut down to 5-4 –
but eventually closing that out and cruising to victory in straights, 6-4, 6-2.
